Sunday, October 4th, was the day of the SC Half Ironman. The distances for a Half Ironman are 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, and 13.1 mile run.
Jason went down on Saturday and camped with several other triathletes. Ian and I stayed home and then went down on Sunday morning to see him race.
Jason said that he would be finishing up the bike around 10:45am...so we decided to leave around 9AM, got there around 10:30am, and found the bike to run transition area. We set up our chairs and started waiting. Ian ate some goldfish while we waited and I snapped a few pics of him in hopes of getting one of him smiling...here is what I got(enjoy the many faces of Ian):

We spotted Jason coming in from the bike:
It's a little hard to see...but if you look to the right of the start sign below, you can see him transitioning from bike to run:
Then, he was off to start the run portion:

While we were waiting on Jason to finish the run, Ian colored, had a few suckers, and rolled down the hill:
Finally, I spotted Jason coming around the corner! By the way, it was about 100 yards or so straight uphill to the finish line. Talk about brutal finish after having just been 70.3 miles! I captured a quick video of Jason coming in to finish his first Half (he had 3 flats and was unable to finish the half last year)...and on his way to the finish line, he reached out to grab Ian's hand, and Ian ran with him to the finish! I apologize for the jumpy video below...I was so excited and since I was just using my digital camera, I didn't have the option of zooming in...so I had to walk with the camera in order to get over to where I could get close.
Ian was so excited about finishing the race with Jason and wore Jason's medal the rest of the day!

Jason finished the race in 5:02:04!! Congrats Jason! You trained hard and you did GREAT! We love you and are so proud of you!!
