8th anniversary

On June 29, 2001, I said, "Yes!" and on June 29, 2002, I said, "I do!" It's hard to believe we've been married 8 years!

I love Jason Thomas. He is my best friend. We have had so much fun over the last 8 years as a married couple as well as the 7 years prior to us getting married. Here are a few pics of us during dating years. It's fun to look back at these...I think Jason has had more hair styles than I have...lol.

I was a little bummed on Monday when Jason left to go out of town for work. He was going to be gone until today...and I was sad we were not going to be together for our 8th anniversary. Well, yesterday, Jason sent me a txt message around 4:45pm saying to call him on my way out from work. Well, I was still working at 5:15. Finally, I walked out about 5:30ish...and Jason calls my cell. I ignored his call because I was in the process of walking to my car with my hands full...plus, I was just trying to hurry so that I could go pick up Ian. (I was planning to call him back once I got in my car and was on the road to get Ian). Well, I cranked my car and started backing out of my spot...and was half way out of my spot when I hear a tap on my drivers window...it was Jason!!!! I just sat there in shock. I just kept saying, "you're not supposed to be here!" He said, "well, I am, and I am taking you to dinner." Me, "What? I gotta go pick up Ian, and I am running late." Jason, "He's taken care of...and is spending the night with my parents." So, I pulled back into my spot, got out, and got in Jason's truck. No wonder he wanted me to call him on my way out...he was in the parking lot at Milliken. I am SO blessed to have such a wonderful husband. He makes me feel so special! So, after I got in his truck, he said, "want to go eat in Greenville or Asheville? If we go to Greenville, we will have time to watch this movie I got (The Book of Eli)...but if we go to Asheville, we probably won't have time...but either way is fine with me." So, I opted for Greenville and the movie. We ended up eating at Larkins on the River and walking around Reedy River Falls:

It was a beautiful night last night too. Perfect for walking around downtown Greenville.

And the movie was GREAT!

It was such a fun, relaxing night!

Not to mention, he surprised me at work with beautiful flowers too:

Then, this morning, Jason went and picked Ian up from his parents around 7am and he and Ian escorted me to work since we left my car there overnight. It was so nice to have my 2 favorite boys drop me off.

I am one blessed woman...and I look forward to many more years with my best friend!!

Ian's first trip to the dentist

I picked Ian up from Holly's today shortly after 4 to take him to his first dentist appt. I walked into their house...and all 6 children (her 5 + Ian) were sound asleep in their den. It was like a big slumber party...it was nice and dark in there and they all had their blankets...it was SO sweet! Shoot, it made me want to grab a blanket and curl up on the couch and take a nap myself! lol

Will woke Ian up...at least enough so that I could get him to the car. He was so sleepy and out of it. As soon as I drove off, he was out again!

I was like...hmmm...this is going to be a rude awakening when he wakes up and realizes he is at the dentist's office! haha However, it was not as traumatic as I had anticipated. He whined for a few seconds when he first woke up after we got there...but then did a quick turnaround. As I was putting his flip flops on to go in, He pointed at some random guy walking in and asked, "Is that Mr. Thirsty?" Granted, "Mr. Thirsty" was the name Amy, our hygienist, had given to their tool that helps rinse your mouth during your dentist visit, and not a real person...but at least Ian remembered and associated where we were with what Amy had mentioned to him when we were there for my cleaning about a month ago.

After we got inside, he picked up a toy and started playing.

Then, it was time to go back. You could see a little bit of fear on his face...but he never cried. He did really well! Amy was out sick today, so Ms. Nan cleaned his teeth instead.

Then, Dr. Ellett came in and checked him out:

He got a good report and Dr. Ellett gave him a high 5! They even gave him some goodies, which he LOVED...a "CARS" toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, a bright green wrist band, stickers and a gift certificate to Baskin Robbins!

He thought he was the stuff. I'm so proud of how well he did!

A little Kung Fu Action

Ian has been obsessed with the movie Kung Fu Panda lately.

It is so funny how he gets on a movie kick and watches the same movies for weeks at a time. He's watched it so many times now that he basically has it memorized.

Everything is "HIGH-YA" lately. He'll stand in our den and yell, "I am legendary...let's fight."

Holly mentioned that Ian and her boys have been standing at the top of the stairs in their house yelling, "I love Kung Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!"

If you've never seen it (I know it's a couple years old), you should...it's a cute movie.

Saturday, while Jason was in Columbia at a triathlon, Ian and I had a fun morning in our backyard. I attached the hose to Ian's elephant pool so that he could play. The first thing Ian starts doing is a little Kung Fu action against the water spout:

It was quite funny to watch. He kept attacking the spout...even threw in some round house kicks. I wish I had gotten some video...but only got this one picture with my cell phone.

After the pool filled up, I turned off the water, got some toys including several buckets, and got in the pool with Ian. Yes, this was quite a sight, I'm sure. While sitting in the pool with Ian, he "cooked" me some salad (yes, cooked salad) in his bucket...and then made me fruit salad with "bejtables" (yes, vegetables, not fruit). It was all extremely delicious! ;) We had a lot of fun!

So, now, I leave you with the song that has been stuck in my head for the last several weeks...

"Everybody was kung-fu fighting
Those cats were fast as lightning
In fact it was a little bit frightning..."

Ian's big boy room

is finally done...and he LOVES it! He says, "it's AHSOME!" I think it's "AHSOME" too...in fact, I would love to sleep in there myself! The ceiling has glow in the dark stars...and the moon on the wall actually lights up and goes through the different phases. It is SO cool! We all 3 lay in there together some nights and just look at all the stars and the moon. Jason painted an awesome rocket ship on the wall as you enter his room...and then one of my favorite aspects of the room is the bible verse above his closet, Psalm 19:1 "The heavens declare the GLORY of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands."

No more pappy

When Ian was about a year and a half, we only let him have his "pappy" (pacifier) at night. He never had a problem with not having it during the day.

However, night time was a WHOLE different ballgame. He LOVED having his pappy at night. He had about 4 or 5 in his crib so that he could find one in the dark at any given point during the night. (we learned that this was the thing to do after hunting a missing pappy in the middle of the night several times.)

Well, we finally decided around 2.5 yrs. that it was time to get rid of the pappy altogether.

First attempt: We told Ian that there were little baby boys in other parts of the world that needed pappys...and that it would be very nice of him to send his pappys to them. At first, it seemed like he was ok with this idea. So, we "gave them away". Well, the night that we "gave them away", he stood in his crib before we laid him down and covered him up, got this frown his face, eyebrows scrunched together, finger pointing in the air, and said, "I want my pappy's back NOW!" He said it again, "I want my pappy's back NOW!" Jason and I had to try really hard to keep straight faces. Since he was only 2.5, we decided that it was a little early...and it helped him fall asleep. So, we caved and gave them back to him. Ok, so we probably gave in more for us (because we like sleep too!) than for him. First attempt...FAIL!

Second attempt: This past Christmas...we told him that in exchange for his toys from Santa, he should leave his pappy by the fireplace...for Santa to take to other little baby boys who needed one. However, a few nights before Christmas Eve, Ian began to cry saying that he didn't want Santa to take his pappy. So, I caved again...for several reasons...1.) I didn't want Christmas Eve to be a miserable night...and 2.) we didn't want Ian to hate Santa. Second attempt...FAIL!

Third attempt: For a month or 2 before we got Ian's big boy bed, we talked it up and talked it up...that when he got his big boy bed, he could no longer have his pappy. Finally, the day had arrived...Ian's big boy bed had been delivered and put together...it was time to get rid of the pappy...a day that I thought would bring many tears and gnashing of teeth. So, mid afternoon, 2 Saturdays ago after Ian got up from his nap, I told Ian, "Your big boy bed came today while you were sleeping!! Go check it out!" He ran in there...he was so excited and said, "this is AWESOME"...he loved it! Finally, I told him, "you know what this means...no more pappy." Much to our surprise, he walked over, got his pappy, marched right into the kitchen, opened the trashcan, and threw it away (and has not mentioned it since!). I just sat there in shock. My first thought was, "wow, that went MUCH better than I had anticipated." Then, it hit me, and I wanted to break down and cry like a baby. Two huge milestones had happened...1.)he had slept in his crib for the last time and had willingly gotten rid of his pappy. Although, somewhat painful for me...Third attempt...SUCCESS!

Future dj?

Jason is the temporarily the minister of music at our church, Bethlehem Baptist.  The other day Jason was up in the balcony doing the sound and Ian wanted to put the headphones on.  It takes a LOT of restraint for a 3 year old to not go crazy wanting to push all of those buttons, but he did well!

Wicked Weekend

Saturday, June 5th, Amber and I drove to Rock Hill, picked up Amanda and her sister, Olivia, and headed into Charlotte to see Wicked!

Before we left for the play, we ate lunch at Amanda's. She bought subs (Thanks Amanda!!) and Amber, Olivia, and Amanda went in and bought me an ice cream cake for my 30th bday with my favorite flavor, World Class!! YUMMO! I have the sweetest friends!

The play was WONDERFUL! I loved it!

After the play, we headed to the Cheesecake Factory for some good dinner!

It was SOO much fun hanging out with some great girlfriends for the day. There is already talk about planning a girls trip to the NYC to see Wicked on broadway!
