God of this City

As Ronald Reagan emphasized during his Presidency, "America is a shining city upon a hill whose beacon light guides freedom-loving people everywhere."

Ronald Reagan also said in his farewell address to the nation, "I've spoken of the Shining City all my political life. …In my mind it was a tall, proud city built on rocks stronger than oceans, windswept, God-blessed, and teeming with people of all kinds living in harmony and peace; a city with free ports that hummed with commerce and creativity. And if there had to be city walls, the walls had doors and the doors were open to anyone with the will and the heart to get here. That's how I saw it, and see it still."

In light of recent days, I have thought more and more about "Our Shining City" and one of my most favorite praise and worship songs right now, "God of this City" by Chris Tomlin. It has a great message! Enjoy!

What a song. I hope you don't mind I posted this on my blog tonight too. We sang this at church a few weeks ago and I forgot how powerful it was. Thanks for reminding me.

Thank you for your comment, Julie. It is a good chance for us all to refocus our hearts and become more devoted to prayer. It is also a chance for us to honor a leader we don't prefer, unlike the hate that has been spread around for the last 8 years. I want to show that it can be done differently!
