Anemia

Ok...so Monday when we were at the doctor because Ian had vomited so much and his chest sounded so congested, Ian's finger was pricked to check for bacterial or viral infection.

Well, in getting the results back, Dr. Hicklin told us that Ian's hemoglobin was slightly low, 10.5. He said normal for toddlers was 11-13. So, not terribly low and he said he was not concerned at all because most toddlers were slightly anemic at this age.

For those that don't know what anemia is, it is a low shortage of hemoglobin in the blood caused by iron deficiency.

Therefore, Dr. Hicklin said that we needed to start giving Ian a multivitamin with iron and try to get more meat in him.

So, I bought a liquid multivitamin with iron made by Enfamil. It is not flavored and smells terrible...but I mix 1 ml in with some applesauce and he has no problem with it.

Ian will be 17 months on Saturday...can't believe how fast time goes. Considering we don't go back to the doctor until his 18 month checkup...we'll have a month to use the multivitamin and concentrate on eating more meat...and then we'll prick his finger again to see if his numbers have come up.

Not concerned at all, just need to adjust a few things and work on getting him more iron.

Also, we weighed him and he weighs 26.5 lbs. Healthy growing boy...thank the Lord!
