Lots of finger sticks lately...and more to come

I have had my finger stuck twice within the last 3 days.

The first stick came Friday. I have been dealing with a nasty sinus infection for over a week now and was trying to ride it out. Well, Friday, my mom asked me if I wanted to be seen by the dr. Initially, I said, "no, I think I am a hair better". However, she talked me into coming and having my finger stuck. I was glad I did...my white blood count was 11000...and should be 6000-7000...it was bacterial. So, I was then seen by the dr who prescribed me an antibiotic. I was so glad that I started the antibiotic Friday because Saturday and Sunday I started having the worst dental pain in my upper right teeth due to the infection. The pain has been somewhat better this morning, but I can still feel it. Hopefully, this antibiotic will knock this out quickly.

The second stick came today. I had an OB visit today which included the 1 hour glucose test. I passed the 1 hour test with Ian by 1 pt. and was hoping to pass this time around too. So, I started drinking the wonderful orange drink about 8:20 and had it down by 8:23 (You have to have it down within 5 minutes). Then, the clock started and I was told to go back to the lab around 9:23 to have the blood drawn. I was then seen by the dr who measured my belly (right on track) and listened to the hearbeat (146). After my visit with the dr, I only had about 15 minutes to wait to have my finger stuck to check my sugar. Within a minute, the nurse told me that my sugar was a little high (147). It has to be below 140 to pass. So, back to the dr I go on Friday to endure the 3 hour ordeal. Ugh. Not that the drink is really that bad, but I don't look forward to having to drink that stuff and wait and get stuck, and wait and get stuck, and wait and get stuck. The nurse told me that since my sugar was not TOO high, that I should pass on Friday. Wish me luck! The nurse also mentioned that my hemoglobin was a little low (10.5)...which my mom said the bloodwork at her office Friday showed the same thing. So, I am off to the drug store later to buy me some Slow FE to help with that!

More sticks to come on Friday...stay tuned!
